December 25: Global Share the Bible Day

picture-7To help remind people of the true meaning of Christmas, YouVersion is leading an effort to make the Bible as visible as possible during this season. We’ve set Saturday, December 25, as Global Share the Bible Day. We’d be honored if you would join us.

The idea is to get as many people as possible talking about the Bible leading up to—and especially on—December 25. We’re asking people to engage others in everyday conversations, to send tweets, to update their Facebook status, and even to highlight it on pages on their websites. (And those who spread the word ahead of time might just enjoy an extra gift this year: Their choice of an iPad, an iPhone 4, or a Nexus S!)

We’ve suggested ideas as simple as sharing what God has done in your life, sharing your favorite verse, and sharing about the Christmas story. We’re hoping that if people will use the hash tag #Bible, we can build some momentum online.

We’re also asking people to consider telling others how they can get the Bible for free through the Bible App. (We specifically designed it to make it easy for believers to share both their faith and how they’re using YouVersion, so we hope that will help people participate.)

Please prayerfully consider joining us, speaking to your circles of influence, and encouraging others to spread the word building up to—and especially on—that day. We’d love your help to draw as much attention to the Bible as we can on December 25.

What you can do now:

What you can do on Christmas day:

  • Share the Bible in your social media spaces (using #Bible on Twitter) and with the people you know.

1 Billion Minutes in 1 Month: Can You Help?

In our YouVersion Webcast today, we just shared exciting news about some recent milestones and future goals. So far, the Bible App has been downloaded more than 10 million times and people have used YouVersion to read the Bible for 3.5 billion minutes! And as thrilled as we are with what God has done so far, we’re confident that He wants to do much, much more to help people fall in love with His Word.

So we’re stepping out with a big goal and hoping you’ll be a part of it too:

1 billion minutes reading the Bible in 1 month.

In January alone, our hope is that users will spend at least 1 billion minutes reading the Bible. For comparison, it took 18 months to reach the first billion minutes, so we’re counting on God to pave the way and awesome people like you to fuel the fire. If you would prayerfully consider whether you can be a part of making this God-sized milestone a reality, here are some things that would really help:

  • If you haven’t already, would you rate YouVersion in iTunes?
  • Please vote for YouVersion in the 4th Annual Mashable Awards.
  • Help your friends install YouVersion on their phones and other devices.
  • Please mention @YouVersion in tweets and in Facebook status updates, encouraging folks to download it to their devices.
  • If you blog, please consider writing at least one post to let your readers know what we’re doing and rallying them to join us. Feel free to use these graphics in your posts.
  • Share the Bible on Christmas Day. You’ll be hearing more about this soon, but it will be a great opportunity to point people to the birth of Christ.
  • Consider serving on the YouVersion team in one of the many different positions that are available: proofreading, user support, app testing, design, development, and more.

Between now and Christmas is when we’ll have the opportunity to make the biggest impact, so it would be really great if you could focus your efforts within that window. Stay tuned to the YouVersion Facebook page or Twitter feed to keep up with the latest.

Thank you so much for your help. We appreciate how much the Swerve community has already done for YouVersion and can’t wait to see how God moves in this next season as person after person spends more time than ever in His Word.

YouVersion: 10 Million Downloads!

If you didn’t know already, as of this posting, YouVersion’s very special webcast is happening right now (Tuesday, November 16, 2010). We’d be thrilled if you could join us and let your friends know (the webcast page has handy social sharing tools to make it easy).

During the webcast, we are announcing that the YouVersion Bible App has been downloaded more than 10 million times! And we’re also very excited about this: so far, people have used the Bible app to read the Bible for more than 3.5 billion minutes. We are witnessing the Bible being read, engaged with and shared in new, inspiring ways.

While we are thrilled that we get to be a part of what God is doing, we also would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped make it all possible. It’s only through your passion, your commitment, and your help that we have reached these milestones.

We’d like to first thank our publishing partners who make it possible for our users to enjoy so many great translations as they spend time in Scripture. We’d  also like to thank the Swerve community, the YouVersion user community,  all who contribute financially to YouVersion, and YouVersion’s core  group of volunteers. It’s only because of all of these dedicated people  that the Bible App is continuing to grow in usefulness and in reach.

We love God’s Word, and we are humbled that we get to serve Him by sharing it with others. Thank you for being a part of it all. This is just the beginning… millions more are ready for the Bible to become part of their everyday lives. More on that soon!
