I love the idea of challenging all lifegroups to do a mission project one weekend per month. We ask our lifegroups to do a mission project at least once a semester, but summer time is a great time to get involved in the community. We have one lifegroup that has already taken this initiative, and they are doing a movie ministry at a low income apartment complex. They are going once a month and having hot dogs and showing a christian based kids movie (like Veggie Tales) on an outdoor screen with a projector. Its a great way to get to know the parents and do something fun for the kids.

If there was a like button on this, I'd click it.

I love out-of-the-box yet in-the-box thinking, if that makes sense? (It does to me, but that's because I said it :) )

ROCKHarbor Church in Costa Mesa, CA is having an intentional focus this summer on community building, both among church members and mixing in with your local neighborhood communities. Each week has a different suggested activity or focus.

Craig, this is an overlooked topic. Oftentimes churches just drift into the summer and out again in the fall and are not intentional or strategic about it.

Summer needs to be a time when Pastor and staff find refreshment and renewal for the year ahead. But it can also be a time when other kinds of renewal are happening. We have found that Vacation Bible School can be a time for people who haven't been serving to give children's ministry a try. And its a great place for new families to give our church a try.

We have a special summer program for students that aims at bringing in kids who haven't been in our program through the year.

This year we are offering two message series that are fun and instructive and my associate pastor and our youth pastor will be sharing the preaching with me so I get some breaks and the congregation gets to hear different voices.

Summertime is also a great time to clean and refresh the facility. Get a dumpster and get rid of the junk.
