The Porn Event Begins

thepornevent.comYesterday we kicked off ThePornEvent.com, a 25-minute interactive experience designed to help people who are struggling with pornography. It features open discussions with people who’ve dealt with pornography addiction, as well as community chat, one-on-one prayer, and an invitation to accept Christ.

We’re really excited about the potential for an event like this to reach people who are looking for fulfillment all over the Internet. We’ve launched a global Google adwords campaign specifically targeted to people searching for pornography online. We’re offering the event throughout the week at multiple times to connect with people in different time zones.

It’s been great to see the response during the first day and a half. So far nearly 2,000 people have attended the event and nearly 100 of them have accepted Christ. People who’ve experienced the effects of pornography addiction are also showing up to offer support in the chat, like this woman from South Africa:

My husband was addicted to this and it nearly broke my marriage - we have been through hell and back. But, glory to God, He has become the number one in our lives, and no one can overcome this problem without Him.

We’re looking forward to what happens during the many experiences scheduled to take place during the week.

we’re actually touching on this issue this Sunday (May 30) - will the website still be active after Friday’s experience, so we could include it in a list of resources?

It has been my experience that getting people to quit accessing porn is only treating a symptom of a bigger problem. If a man throws his computer away and never looks at another magazine but remains unregenerate, he will still lust, and he will seek out ways to gratify that lust. As the saying goes, “It’s better to loathe sin than leave it, cuz if you leave it, you can still love it, but if you loathe it, you’ll leave it and not love it.”

Great and simple men alike have known the horrid chains
Of sin’s enslavement and defeat of struggle, without gain.

This battle common, though it be, takes daily casualties
And leaves the wounded living without hope of being free.

They walk in silent solitude behind their painted masks
And wallow in their private sins until somebody asks,

“Hey brother, how may I and these who know your desperate plight
Walk side by side with you in grace to end your pain and strife?”

We’ve known defeat and sorrow in this battle you now see,
But now we spend our lives instead in setting captives free.

Your battle scars and stories of entrapment and of blame,
we know them all, we’ve lived them all, we understand the shame.

Step up and walk beside us now, we’re going the same way
We’re seeking life in Jesus Christ and trusting more each day

That He will change our hearts and minds so we might come to be
Ones who pass the truth along by setting captives free. John Stroud

Great ministry. I was a victim of this sin, and it is indeed hell. Only the grace of God is keeping my marriage and family together. I pray you will reach many and offer them a connection to Christ, as He is the only way to be saved. This is a huge problem - we live in a society that is pornographic in nature - it’s everywhere, it’s both tolerated and glamorized, and most people have no idea the relational and eternal consequences that it reaps. I would also recommend Setting Captives Free - it has been a key in overcoming my battle.
