Jesus was equal with God the father. Yet He humbled himself (Phil. 3). We can be humble even if we are on a "level playing field" with other individuals. We can be humble toward someone even if we are "superior" to them. To humble yourself is humility; to be humbled by someone else or by circumstances is humiliation.

Dissipating honor is a vicious cylcle. Humanity has taken honor from God and placed it upon ourselves. As a result we place a high value upon the individual. As a result, within our relationships, instead of humility we act with equality. Then when we enter a "personal relationship" with God we are in the mind set of equality instead of humilty, robbing God of the very honor that is His. I very well could be wrong, but I don't see how honor can survive when we insist on a level playing field
