Amazing new things are being done w/ television in the majority world church. We recently did a 'home' outreach where we broadcast-ed our children's HopeGiver film on national television in 14 languages and then families invited neighbor children into their houses to watch, followup w/ contextualized scripture books to accompany the movie and invitations to discipleship classes. The equivalent of Indian Nielsens had a viewership of over 400 million, we had 13 million attend the home showings. Innovative media missions is the way to go...

Unbelievable. But don't you think we have a lot of work to do to repair the image of the 'tele evangelist'?

I am by no means suggesting that that's what lifechurch or any other church would be doing, but that bridge has been burned so many times by vultures preying on the weak.

There is great potential with media and the future seems limitless. This would be a great tool and I look forward to seeing how the church uses it to reach the lost!

Great thoughts!

I just returned from Kenya with Compassion International where I had the chance to tour various slums around Nairobi. I was surprised to learn that most of the population in the slums had access to some form of television despite their extreme poverty.

I asked those who had been doing outreach for years in the slums how TV was changing the impoverished. The answers were all the same, quick, and simple:

Television is making those in extreme poverty significantly more discontent.

The explanation behind that statement was that before television people know that they had a rough life, but it isn't until they see the images on television that they realize how severely disadvantaged they are.

Nevertheless, the people continue to consistently watch television almost every night, proving that it's a medium with unquestionable potential to spread the gospel to the poorest of the poor.
