Great topic!

It is the same in Australia. Everyone looks at seemingly sucessful churches and tries to follow their recipe.

Who needs a spiritual meal of McChurch when you can have a wonderful home cooked smorgasboard buffet?

In a recent post on my blog I called it that "they wanna be like Mike". They all want immitate MJ - yet they don't realise it is who THEY are and what Jesus is doing through them that gives them their distinct flavour and taste in their wider community.

Our churches recipe is Jesus, justice, glocal missions. This is not official. I'm #justsayin.

Avery,

It's an honor to be confused with Craig :)
It's also what I get for not posting as frequently as I used to.

Riddle,
I'll let you have up to 140 characters in the future if you need them :)

Brent,

True. I do know pastors who never try anything new or always feel like they need to change everything they use because their people are "different" or because "it won't work here". Many times they are right...some times they are wrong. But, overall I think I talk to more pastors who are looking for the recipe to follow.

I'm so glad you said this Craig. And talking with you in person, I know the sincerity. Thanks! For us, the ingredient that seems to come the easiest is community - focusing on those outside our walls. I'm blessed to serve at a Church that does this well.

I think sometimes the opposite is true also. I saw churches during the 40 Days of Purpose craze that would leave out elements of the campaign that they didn't like or didn't think would work at their church. Their campaigns weren't very effective, and I think it's because of their unwillingness to 'follow the recipe' the campaign called for.

We are risk takers. We don't settle for average. We are a place of truth and grace. We love doing things outside of the box. We challenge people to come to faith in Christ. We serve our community.

"key ingredients for your church"
Highly relational, we show up 10 minutes late and stick around for an hour after. Asking questions about life, faith, church is accepted and normal. Giving (financial) that is supernatural. We are staff lead, staff health-mental, physical, emotional and spiritual are high priority. We acknowledge often that life is messy, following Jesus changes everything, and we keep moving toward the finish line. We have an extraordinary amount of fun!

For us it is Reaching, Moving, Building, and Serving. We put these ingredients togethers and we will be doing what we as a church are being called to be by Christ and that is the goal.

Thanks for the thoughts Bobby.

Thank you thank you for this great reminder Craig. I fight this all the time. I like other church's recipe's too much.
Hmm, what are some of our unique ingredients?
We really focus on Creativity, Authenticity, Relevance & Excellence (CARE). We have also put a lot of time into what it looks like to be a disciple around LifePoint Church. Our mission is to Influence People to Find & Follow Jesus. We are working on our unique process that one can follow in becoming a Christ-like Influencer.
Have a great day Craig.
Blessings,
Dave
