Bring your friends on Facebook to church

Bring your friends on Facebook to Church Online this Easter…or even better, bring Church Online to your friends on Facebook.

Our team has been working with the folks at Facebook to add a new feature to our online church experiences this Easter.  I’ll do my best to explain the feature here, but the best way to understand it would be to come to one of the 14 Church Online Easter experiences starting this Saturday night.

One of the popular features of Facebook is the ability to make short status updates that allow your friends to see what you are doing.  You can also see the updates of all of your friends.  This Easter, Facebook has allowed us to integrate these status updates into our online church experience.  People will be able to post updates and also see the status updates from all of their friends while participating in Church Online.  These will also all be visible on Facebook and will provide an easy way for people in Facebook to join the live experience.  The last time I remember seeing this type of integration was with Facebook and CNN for the broadcast of the Presidential Inauguration where they saw 1 million updates to Facebook that morning.

I’m really proud of our team who is working hard to engage and intersect people “where they are at” online.  It’s going to be a great Easter week.  You’re invited and so are your friends on Facebook.

    How can someone simply watch the service on-line, focusing on the Lord and the message without the distractions of blogging, twittering and whatever else? These things may be a service to some but are frankly a distraction to others. Also, what if we don’t want to sign up with Facebook? Are we no longer able to watch the services LIVE ONLINE? Its all very confusing!

    Sorry that you find the experience distracting, but I think there are a few ways that can easily make it a better experience for you.

    Many people simply click on the video (which takes the video full screen) or on the “notes” tab which simply hides the chat during the service.

    You are not required to sign-up for facebook to see the experience or even chat. It is only if you would like to connect the experience to your friends on facebook.
