One Prayer 2009

With a short blog post last March, we announced the idea of One Prayer here on Swerve. We thought it would be great if 100 churches signed up. More than 1,800 churches and one million believers later, it’s clear that God has much bigger plans for One Prayer than we ever could have imagined. Thanks to all of you who participated—it wouldn’t have been the same without you!

After seeing what was accomplished in 2008 with just two months of preparation, we’re especially excited to see what’s ahead as we make plans for One Prayer 2009. We want you to be a part of those plans, so here’s where we are so far:

  • Save the date! One Prayer will take place from June 7 - 28, 2009.
  • The premise for One Prayer will remain the same: what if we could be the answer to Jesus’ prayer (John 17:20-24) for his Church to become one?
  • The teaching theme for 2009 is, “God Is...” We’ll be exploring the attributes of God through messages like “God is Powerful,” “God is a Fortress,” “God is My Provider, ” and “God is Love.”
  • We’ll unite as the Church in action as we share, serve, and give. We’ll be sharing resources, serving our communities, and giving to a meaningful cause.
  • One Prayer is all about churches working together and we’ve already had several churches offer to contribute ideas, time and resources to making One Prayer 2009 a success. We are also working on some plans that will engage many of you in the creative process for One Prayer. It’s going to be a great year for unity!
  • Registration and more details will be available after the first of the year, but wanted to get you this basic information so you can incorporate One Prayer into your 2009 calendar. If you have further questions, please contact us.

We’re anticipating an even bigger response to One Prayer in 2009 and believe it will be an opportunity to leave a permanent imprint of Christ on the world. What would you like to see happen during One Prayer 2009?

Bobby, one of the things that might be nice for One Prayer 2009 would be some short interview video from pastors that participated in One Prayer 2008. They can share stories of unity, transformation, power, vision, etc.

I am going to try & push this forward at our church - I think it would be great.

Awesome! We are finalizing our calendars for next year and this is great timing! This series was awesome for us. As a small church - we actually saw summer attendance increase and as pastors - we got some of a break.
On top of that - we launched a city prayer event that continues to this day and we would like to encourage other churches to be involved with us next summer!

    Craig/Bobby

Is there an opportunity for Churches outside the US to participate? I minister in Australia and was wondering how it might work for us over here? In order for me to raise it as a possibility I’d need to have a good idea of how it all works… is there some where i can go to get that info or can you send it to me?

    cheers

Andrew, you can head on over to OnePrayer.com.

I can go ahead and answer your question though. The answer is yes, there is every opportunity for churches outside the U.S. to participate - including yours!

Last year there was a huge response from churches outside the U.S.; in other words, a LOT of churches from outside the U.S. joined OnePrayer.

So there is nothing hindering you guys from joining! I encourage it - I know it makes Father proud :)

Andrew we participated from the UK so I am sure you guys can out do us poor Brits. We are in for 2009 and would like to join with some more churches in our city if possible. That’s what we will be working towards.

This sounds like a great idea! I am a youth pastor in the Seattle area and we do something very similar to this called the ION Project. It is a quarterly event where churches come together to do community service projects, eat, and worship together. We had 6 churches (small potatoes compared to 1800!) this last time.
My church is planning our year out this week and I’ll do everything I can to make sure this gets on the calendar!
