186,894 minutes spent reading the Bible on the iPhone

Since yesterday’s launch people have spent a total of 186,894 minutes reading the Bible on their iPhones using the Bible App.  It is now one of the top 50 applications on iTunes.

Our goal with all along has been to increase people’s engagement with Scripture, and yesterday has proven to be a big milestone in this effort.  I’m really excited to think about all that will happen as more people began to make the Bible a part of their everyday lives.

If you have an iPhone (and soon to include now the iPod touch) I encourage you to download it - it’s FREE.  We are continuing to develop new features for YouVersion, so the website, mobile site, and iPhone app will continue to get better.

Be sure to blog, twitter, and email your friends who have iPhones.  I also really appreciate all of you who have taken the time to write a review on iTunes.  Thanks.

Some of those minutes belong to me. I REALLY appreciate this application. My iPhone is CONSTANTLY in my hand so being able to read the Bible so easily is very convenient. This morning I read the first 3 chapters of John’s gospel while cooking breakfast and waiting for the water to warm up for my morning shower. This is an AWESOME app that I’ve recommended to friends.

    Thanks again,

PS: thanks also for featuring me and XXXChurch on last October 7th’s “Porn Sunday” - I don’t think I’ve personally thanked you for that

Great app. I’m enjoying it as well. Thanks for everything.

I am curious and have a question. How is the app counting the minutes of use? Is it connected to a server the entire time I’m reading? I guess I had assumed all of the scriptures were installed ON the iphone. Yes, I know that the user contributions are online, the bible text is as well???

This is an awesome ministry! I saw it on a friend’s iPhone this weekend and it almost is enough to get me to switch from Verizon to AT&T. Thanks for always thinking, dreaming and serving the Kingdom!

Could you add a link to a printable one year plan that is the same as what’s on the YouVersion reading plan? That way if you have an accountability partner w/o an iphone yet, they can still be on the same plan.
