YouVersion Powers the Bible App on iPhone
The wait is over. As the web is buzzing with reports of the new iPhone 3G and iPhone 2.0 update, we’re adding to the excitement with the debut of a Bible App for the iPhone, powered by YouVersion.com.
The ease of use you’ve come to expect from YouVersion.com now fit in the palm of your hand. We’re thrilled to launch this new application that iPhone and iPod Touch users will be able to download for free. It’s called the Bible App and it’s available now from Apple’s built-in App Store.

Read: As you read, you can easily scroll through the chapter with a simple upward or downward flick of your finger. In the navigation bar area, you’ll find buttons to move forward or back a chapter. When you’re done reading and close out the application, it will automatically save your last spot in the Bible view and
this will be your starting point the next time you start up the Bible application.
Daily Read: The One-Year Reading Plan provides daily selections to keep you on track with your Bible reading when you’re on the go.
User Contributions: Since the Bible application is powered by YouVersion.com, you are only a few taps away from an online community of people experiencing the Bible in a new way. Expand your perspective by checking out relevant notes, video, images, and links users have contributed—just tap the number next to the verse. You can also tap the Contribs icon located in the tab bar to view a list of recently shared items.
Search: Search the entire Bible for a word, phrase, or verse, and you’ll get your results in seconds. It’s never been easier to find your way around the Bible!
There are 15 different translations (including Spanish versions) available in the Bible App. You can pick your favorite and make it your default.
iPhone users can now have the Bible via YouVersion.com with you no matter where you are, whether you need help remembering a verse while talking to a friend or you want to make the most of your time stuck in line.

Jeremiah, I just downloaded it on my iPhone and it all worked fine. If you are still having an issue you can go to http://www.youversion.com/iphone and at the bottom click the “Need Support for the iPhone App?” and fill it out.
My guess is that Apple is having issues on and off today with the iTunes store. I have noticed that you can only read the reviews on your iPhone. BTW, currently 19 reviews for the Bible app, all GREAT…5 stars!

It ROCKS! Had my morning devotion on it. Love the speed. Wish it would do stand alone so I could use it on the plane - but it rocks. All the other bible apps are expensive on the app store. Lifechurch does it for free - not peddling the gospel. I LOVE IT!

I downloaded “youversion” on my iphone last week, and it worked great, tried to show it to some friends last night and it would not come up. I have tried it several times since and it still will not come up on the iphone.
Is there a problem with the site?

Thanks so much for the awesome App it’s UI is amazing, only wish there was some wayto download a complete version, slot if times u get a “cannot connect to youversion.com” . Wonderful application but yall may need to boost the server/amount. All the availlable versions are awesome thanks again!

Just to let you know…we found a bug in the app where it would basically not try to reconnect youversion.com if for some reason it had a problem connecting at all. We posted an update to Apple on Saturday that Apple has not released yet. As soon as that goes out (which we hope is very soon)…I think the problem you are experiencing should go away. In the update, we also add several features and add four translations.
We are already working on making several versions available offline, but that will take a little bit of time to complete. In many cases require us to work out different license agreements with the various publishers.
It’s great but I’m REALLY looking foward to the offline version!!!
This is a great bible. I really like the online NIV version. I am greatly anticipating an offline version of the NIV bible in the near future. I assume the offline versions will be the same format??

I´m very sad because I can´t have my Bible app to the Iphone. I live in Brazil and we can´t download it or buy it from Itunes.

Search does not seem to be working completely. For instance, did a search on “clouds”. Not only are the results not sorted, but it did not bring back all the results. For example, it did not include Rev 1:7 “Behold, he is coming with clouds…” NKJV
Hi - nicely done iphone application. Is the development team considering a bookmark and highlight feature that can be used to store bookmarks with comments and retain highlighted portions?
Charles- we are continually trying to improve search and other features. A release coming up in v1.6 will make a big leap forward with paging, and sorting.
Tim- the upcoming v1.6 will include bookmarks. Current plan is not with comments, but that is a good idea.
I’ve downloaded the Android version and have a problem with scrolling - text in the verse touched disappears and then become highlighted, which I then have to clear. Anyone else have this?

Every time I try to set up an account it tells me that the app is unable to communicate with the server. I have tried several different methods but nothing seems to work.
I’m getting the same ‘unable to connect of server’ error. too bad, it used to work well
