Your Church Can Grow this Summer!

It’s true. Your church can grow this summer.

  • Many new churches will grow throughout the summer months.
  • Some “mature” churches will reach more people this summer.
  • Several of our campuses will boom during the “hot” months.

I am believing God for one of the greatest summers ever.

First, I expect One Prayer to ignite a burning spiritual passion! Following One Prayer, we will do “At the Movies.” This series has become an anticipated evangelistic event. (We have seen annual attendance records every July with more salvations than previous months each year.)

(NOTE: PLEASE DON’T RUN OUT AND COPY THIS SERIES THINKING YOU WILL SEE THE SAME RESULTS. THIS IS BASED ON GOD’S BLESSINGS AND YEARS OF TRAINING OUR PEOPLE TO USE THIS FOR OUTREACH.)

Whatever you do this summer, believe growth is possible! Your church can grow this summer! Dream big! God is still on the throne and desires to reach people through your ministry!

Please share any summer evangelistic ideas you have.

I think aome churches figure there is no use fighting the “summer slump” so why bother but you can find ways to stay connected that may seem too simple but if they are intentional, God can use simple! We are doing some “Dinners for 8″ for adults, a kid’s sports camp and an older elementary age creation camp. We also have a big outdoor concert in downtown Des Moines planned with the music group Austins Bridge that will be a community-wide event. Just be intentional!

Craig, I’m not familiar with your “At the Movies” series or event. Sounds interesting. Would you briefly explain? Thanks.

I’m in student ministry, so we’re getting the students ramped up for a summer of service, or “local missions” as we’re calling it. We usually take them overseas for a missions trip, but this year we decided to stay here and focus on serving our community.

They’re signing up for different “teams” to focus on different areas of service. A little friendly competition never hurt!

There are plenty of lost people roaming around the nightclubs downtown during the hot summer nights. Witnessing to those people is a great way to sow seeds far and wide.

We do a Kid’s Kamp. In NC Vacation bible school is huge so we just amp it up. We do it at night and take it to a whole new level with all kinds of huge over the top stuff for the kids. One year we brought a Zoo to the church. We had Lions and Tigers and Bears…oh My! Anyway, we have record attendance the Sunday following with many giving their heart to the Lord. It’s a great way to launch us into the fall.

Praise God for what he can and will do! One of the best opportunities of the summer is that people’s schedules are different. Even the opportunity to have people visiting from out of town opens up huge opportunities to bring guest.

For me one of the biggest prayers of summer is that God not only allows churches to grow, but that the Summer will also provide unique opportunities to disciple new believers in their new faith!

I can’t wait for One Prayer, I think it will be incredible!

1)Healthy Kids - designated spots all around our town/community where hungry kiddos (up to age 18) can get a free lunch every single day of the week for the entire summer rain or shine. (Note: There are numerous churches, organizations and etc. involved in this effort.) 2)Mission Trips - middle school is going to Mission Arlington (Arlington, Texas). High school is going to Philly. 3) Various camps at our physical church building and away for school aged and preschoolers/parents. 4) Water events. 5) Drive-in movie events. 6) We even do what’s still called VBS. Last year alone we had 42 come to Christ! (just when some thought it was considered a lost cause)

The subject Evangelism? I think I’ll stop there lest I’m guilty of writing that book already.

    Here’s one thing we do…
Each August, we divide up our community amongst our people & staff and then, for a week, clean it: yards, alleys, gutters, streets, parking lots, etc. and then, at the end of the week we do block parties with music, lots of food, fun stuff for kids/teens, and LOVE!
~ we’re innercity & this kind of thing really means a lot.

We plan to hand out hundreds of copies of a LC.tv message at the Wimbledon Fair during the Wimbledon Tennis Championship in London this June. The CD cases will have an invitation and map to our Network Church, The Open Door, in London and instructions for attending the 9am GMT LifeChurch.tv Internet Campus online.
