Free Mobile Bible
I mentioned in a previous post that the future is mobile…
Now, you can now access the Bible via your mobile phone at http://m.youversion.com! If you have a web enabled mobile phone, you will be able to read and search The Bible in 14+ translations and much more. Here are some example screen shots on mobile phones (click to enlarge):
Some of the key features include:
- Quick Search including Book, Verse, Keywords/Text.
- 14+ translations currently including: ASV, AMP, ESV, HCSB, NASB, NCV, NIV, NKJV, TNIV, MSG, WEB, LBLA (Spanish), NBLH (Spanish), RVA (Spanish).
- Daily Reading (One Year Bible).
- YouVersion.com User contributions attributed to scripture verses including text, links and YouTube mobile video.
- List of the 20 most recent user contributions.
Oh, I almost forgot…of course it works on the iPhone :)

I think it’s fabulous! I’ve been waiting on the iPhone version for a while! Now it just needs a cute webclip icon to match! :)
And a general suggestion for YouVersion.com not the mobile version in particular, would be to choose a reading plan from several different options. I am currently working on a “Bible in 90 Days” plan and I would love to have that as an option, also a 365 day plan going from Genesis to Revelations would be great as well! :)

Chris, we are working on a roadmap for future releases and I am sure that the account/journal stuff will be on that list.

great, but why pay the carriers each time to read it with gprs usage, so its not free at all, rather buy from http://www.bibleseurope.com and it lands on the phone for ever, with great search functions, no extra costs to the carrier each time you read and a hefty bill at month end!by buying a Bible you don’t violate copyright and revenue goes for a good cause, namely Bible distribution!

Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions.
First, I want to be sure that everyone knows that YouVersion (including the mobile version) does not violate any copyrights. We have worked very hard to secure license agreements with all of the associated publishers of the translations.
You do bring up a good point that the mobile version does require that you have a phone with a data plan and if it is not unlimited, you will likely be charged for the data. However, the trend around the world is that data costs are dropping and in many countries including the US unlimited data plans are increasingly common.
Additionally, the way that we designed YouVersion mobile uses relatively very little data. For example, transferring one photo would be the equivalent of reading several books of the Bible.
One other advantage of yv mobile over a purchased application is the access to user contributed content.
All that being said…there are probably many people who would prefer to have Bible they store on their phone like you referenced. It would be more useful in places where you cannot get data access (like an airplane) or do not want to have a data plan.

I feel like I was just having a conversation the other day with someone about how there is no good mobile bible site. I love my pocket bible software but this is a great additional resource. Thanks for doing this, it works great on my Tilt.

It should be very soon. There are a couple of things that need to be fixed in out kjv and cev database before we can get them to work with the mobile edition. Hopefully, we are looking at a matter of a week or two. It is on the priority list.
