FaceBook beat MySpace because this survey for US public only.
People in other countries use MySpace on a regular basis and never heard about FaceBook.

I missed out on replying to the original.

I have a MySpace page that I visit probably once a month and rarely update. I'm really sick of Tom and all the stupid dating ads.

I just joined Facebook a month ago and I've already been there more often than I've been to my MySpace. I have more friends there and I've actually made more connections with "friends-in-law" (friends of friends) on Facebook than I ever did on MySpace. I agree with everyone else's comments about how clean it is (both in appearance and absence of porn).

I had a hi5 account for a short while, but the porn invitations on that one made MySpace look like a granny convention. (Nothing graphic, but an overabundance of suggestiveness.)

Professionally, I'm on LinkedIn, which I update about once a month. I found profiles for both myself and Vision Magazine on ZoomInfo through Google, so I registered those pages to maintain control, but I hardly ever update them.

JD,

I didn't analyze that, but you can look at all the responses to get an idea.

Everyone asking about the graphs...they were manually made and were not generated buy a graphing program.

I was surprised that Facebook won in usage, but in # of people that update frequently. It is so clean and easy to do with facebook. I was surprised that the numbers for myspace were so low on updating. Wsa any info collected on how many social networks a person uses?

Is there any way we could know what software you're using to make those charts? I would seriously like to find out so I can purchase a copy. Thanks.

Craig -
I was also surprised about FaceBook beating out MySpace - I think the tide is turning .. people are realizing how creative FaceBook is.

I love Virb, as well ... although I seldom login there because they have such great "import" features - my photos and blogs are imported automatically.

I get a kick out of looking at the main inbox on FaceBook and seeing what everyone is up to.

i noticed that twitter and others seem to have flip-flopped from one chart to the other (at least as far as color is concerned)...i point that out not to be critical, but because i am a pretty frequent twitter updater and i'm curious how i measure up to the rest of the world.

i personally love virb and facebook, but have become more addicted to facebook simply because there seems to be more going on there.

In regards to Skyler's question, Facebook really captures the idea of social networking really well. For me, Myspace was fun at first because I got to create my own profile and connect with friends and see what's going on in their lives. However, Myspace doesn't make it too easy to keep with with your friends lives and you would have to visit each profile... which I don't really want to do. When Facebook added the news feeds (Anne referenced them) it became so easy to keep up with what your friends are up to. Also, the news feeds can lead to greater viral opportunities... such as the newly formed group challenging Craig in a vortex football contest :)

i agree with you ryan. Virb is much cleaner than myspace and doesn't have all the annoying applications that facebook has.

To answer Skyler's question...This is why I like facebook:

1. facebook doesn't have as many annoying little advertisements.

2. No html codes for your profile...so no one has that page that takes 5 minutes to load with a high speed connection because they decided to put up a huge poster of their wedding.

3. Cool little perks. When you accept friends, you get to discuss how you met them. It's funny when the stories are outrageous.

IMHO - Facebook is cleaner, more reliable (no "unexpected errors that have been forwarded to MySpace")...less trashy ads (generally speaking - I saw a condom ad on MySpace a couple days ago!) and just plays nice. Being able to see mutual friends on Facebook and the daily feeds of what's going on in your friends' lives is pretty awesome!

I personally think Virb blows everything else out of the water. (However, I'm a graphic designer, and their site is gorgeous, so that might be why :-))

How can I create such pretty pie charts and graphs like that?? :-)
