I’m Curious: Social Networks
I’d like to take a quick informal survey.
I’m curious…how many online social networks have you joined? Which ones? Do you keep your profile update in all of them?
Thanks for your help.

Social networking..sigh. Fine! I do myspace and facebook. Update my profile? Heh heh..maybe I better go look at those. To an old school tech, “social networking” is not just an oxymoron, it’s a scary feeling.
people still use myspace? who knew?
I use Facebook as well as some forum sites specific to my interests. Yes, I keep my profile updated on Facebook. I haven’t logged on at myspace in about a year. But if I am ever looking for a Russian bride, I know where to go.
Facebook (mostly used), MySpace (ehhh), LinkedIn (just when people invite me). I keep FB updated pretty frequently, and its ability to import my RSS feed keeps itself updated.
I am on MySpace, but that’s it really. I’ve heard about Facebook and that it’s good, but I just don’t care that much
Yahoo just released their new social network called Mash.
Profiles that I update:
1) Facebook
2) LinkedIn
3) Twitter (if that counts as a social network)
4) BookJetty (up-and-coming book-review site that rocks)
Profiles I created but rarely even touch:
1) MySpace (the site is a mess)
2) Orkut (not many friends using it)
3) Goodreads (I really mean to update this!)
4) Last.fm (another confusing site)
I am a member on Facebook. I do keep my profile updated (about once a week or every two weeks - is that “updated” enough? :). I never got into MySpace - it seemed like more work than I wanted! I have enjoyed Facebook though, and I am finding more and more applications that interest me so that’s another reason to return every now and then.
Facebook, LinkedIn and M [myimn.com] regularly and profiles are always up to date.
MySpace hardly at all.
No other ones.
Facebook and LinkedIn. That’s it. At the moment, at least…
I use and update these but they have pretty specific crowds attached to them: Facebook (Church), LinkedIn (business contacts), and Myspace (High school friends). I have a Xanga account but I’ve never posted to it.
I use Facebook and MySpace. I mostly use FB as I like it way better than MySpace. I keep my FB updated almost daily. The MySpace page is just a marker so people can find me and my blog.
Funny you should ask, I was just getting ready to post about the social networking sites that I use. Here they are:
1) VIRB. I use it the most.
2) Facebook. I have a profile, but rarely do anything with it.
3) MySpace. Bah… what can you say about MySpace. It’s ugly.
Social Networking:
- Facebook
- Active Rain (Real Estate)
Profiles I Maintain:
- LinkedIn
- ZoomInfo
- HotFrog
(The last 2 are not big ones, but anytime my name comes up in a Google mailing to me to report a new mentioning of my/my company name anywhere on the net, I go ahead and maintain the profiles if possible to control that information. That’s the only reason I mess with them.)
Dabbling:
- Flickr
- Twitter
Facebook only here. I have a LinkedIn account, but have hardly touched it.
Social Networking: MySpace, Shoutlife, FaceBook, Virb
Music Targeted: IndieHeaven.Com, Worship Leader’s SongDISCovery Community
Facebook mostly…tired of myspace so recently deleted it. linkedin, virb, mychurch and orkut created but not maintained…
Xanga - I do not post there anymore, I do have a couple of friends who do and I get their updates via email
Myspace - I don’t update my profile, but I do long on about every other day
Facebook - I check it everyday and I update my profile
Keep Facebook updated. Created a FB group for our church.
Created a profile in myspace, never went back to it. It was too overwhelming to keep a creative profile for a busy person.
Tried Twitter. Dominant cellular provider in our area (U.S. Cellular) does not support the 4-digit SMS (e.g. text subscribe to 1234) forwarding.
Have jyngle set up to do voicemail social networking within my family.
I am a web 2.0 addict, so lets begin the list.
Facebook - Update regularly
MySpace
Twitter
Pownce
Zooomr - photo sharing with social network
Plaxo
Youth Roots
and many others that aren’t completely social networking.
Almost exclusively facebook, I do keep my myspace updated though and I do use it when connecting with the teenagers that I am building relationships with. Other than that I am just waiting on YouVersion!
Facebook. I dropped my space because of all the racy adds and the predators.
I use myspace, facebook and xanga, but I really only update myspace and facebook.
Facebook only.
Facebook and Virb. They seem to be the only ones worth my time. Both use RSS feeds so I can keep them updated straight out of my blog.
Facebook is my new toy, though I have a Xanga, a Myspace, a Xianz, and probably another I’m forgetting. I’ve been lucky to keep any of them updated consistently.
Facebook / Myspace…both have great uses…
Facebook mostly, sometimes MySpace. Also have accounts with Goodreads, GlamNetwork (a fashion blogger community) and Geni (a family tree network.)
Facebook–always keep it updated and use it pretty much daily.
MySpace–have an account but don’t use often or update.
LinkedIn–have an account, but only use if I am invited by someone.
BD
Facebook and MySpace, and I keep them both updated frequently.
Feel free to add me.
Facebook - im a junkie, my rss is embedded as well as all my other network feeds.
http://www.facebook.com/p/Brandon_Neil_Richards/527339277
MySpace - I despise myspace, therfore I don’t use it.
http://www.myspace.com/lampstandburning
LinkedIn stays up to date, although I must be missing the benefit of this network.
http://www.linkedin.com/in/brandonrichards
Pownce - it was fun a day or two.
http://www.pownce.com/richards/
Twitter - i’m still trying to understand the purpose.
http://twitter.com/strugglefish
Flickr - Kinda updated.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandonrichards/
Virb - stays updated
http://www.virb.com/brandonrichards
I think there are some others I’ve used… but obviously they weren’t that great.
Myspace, Facebook, Linkedin, youtube…all updated regularly
Also have a virb but don’t do anything with it.
And I forgot about
http://www.colourlovers.com/lover/brandonrichards
1. Facebook…great site, use it constantly
2. LinkedIn…don’t really see any benefits at this point
3. MySpace…tried it…hated it
Facebook and updated regularly.
Myspace some but not regularly updated.
Blogger - if that counts
MySpace - sometimes
Facebook - rarely
I get into them for a while then slack off. I guess they are not that important to me right now. I like to know they are there. Update every once and a while and then get on with life.
Facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=616548922
I actually use it to network with some of my children’s ministry workers and Student Impact kids.
And there is blogger which I update at least weekly if not more.
My class just used classmates to plan our reunion, but I don’t plan to renew my membership again.
myspace. which i use most fervently.
creating my own html.
facebook. not a fan, but there’s some people on there that aren’t on myspace.
p.s. i really came on here because i am going through chazown and i wanted to see the list of core values that were supposed to be on chazown.com
but that page is defaulting to some other site.
any insight?

jordan,
Craig’s publisher changed hands and they apparently had some troubles in the transition with their websites. We are taking over control of that site and should have it up soon…sorry about the trouble.
Facebook & LinkedIn (both stay updated)
a blog on TypePad if it counts (also stays updated)
I am a member of two sites:
Facebook - good
Myspace - sucks
I try and get on them all, and just link to my blog and facebook occasionally.
I’ve signed up for so many, I started an RSS feed that lists links to all my profiles on all the networks I join on a daily basis.
Kidding.
I couldn’t live without Flickr.
I like:
Facebook
Virb
Pownce
MyChurch
Ma.gnolia
I can stand:
digg
I happen to be on but don’t necessarily love:
Twitter
MySpace
Facebook & LinkedIn.
I only keep myspace because of the music. I loathe all things myspace.
facebook every day
myspace irregularly
xanga almost never (xanga is dead)
I mostly use myspace and facebook, but have profiles on about 7 christian sites that I look at every once and a while.
Facebook couple times a week.
Myspace very rarely (i really wish I would never have to deal with Myspace again).
I use flickr and youtube a lot, but presently I rarely post original material.
facebook
1) facebook - primary, check daily
2) myspace - check it, but don’t update it much
3) virb - made a profile but haven’t done anything with it
4) linkedin - same as virb
I use Facebook (personal) and Myspace to keep up with other Myspace users
I do facebook…check it several times a week…
I found it an ok way to connect with my oldest son, a sophomore in college and an opportunity to “keep track” of my younger son, 8th grade.
I also find it good in networking with the students in our youth group, which I lead.
I have a Facebook account and myspace. I update Facebook more because it’s new (at least to me.)
Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Reunion.com.
I check Facebook regularly. LinkedIn periodically (especially when recently job-hunting). Not sure I remember my MySpace password anymore. Just joined Reunion.com. Pretty impressed, but they want to nickel-and-dime you to death.
Virb, LinkedIn. I keep things relatively current in both.
Facebook check it everyday.
myspace thinking about deleting it.
Myspace - daily
Facebook - several times a week
Facebook - I login/update consistently
MySpace - I login but hardly update it.
Digg - I visit everyday.
LinkedIn, Geni, GoodReads - I rarely login.
Facebook and LinkedIn - I access both pretty much daily.
facebook. VIRB. LinkedIn.
Facebook
thanks bobby.
do you happen to know if theres another place i could look for those 90 examples with descriptions.
i dont want to continue with the book until i have truly recognized what i believe to be my core values.
I use Facebook and Linkin. I keep my info current on both.
[...] This survey is not quite scientific enough to qualify as the Gruenewald/Gallup Survey on Online Social Networks, BUT here are the results anyway: [...]
Oh yeah… I also use Virb.com. Meaning to keep that one updated too.
I have a myspace account only because everyone in my lifegroups use it and in order to see there pages you must have an account. I have only barebones profile and don’t feel too compelled to get up to date, maybe someday?
My biggest online social network, which takes up the bulk of my spare time, is LifeChurch IC. I am a part of a couple groups and lead a couple, which constantly “updates” my profile as I build deeper relationships all the time. This is where my biggest passion lies and no doubt is why other sites don’t get much of my attention. God richly bless the IC!!!!
Facebook & LinkedIn. There are a bunch that seem to be popular out there, but these were the most aesthetically pleasing to me and offered what I wanted.
