Stuck On An Escalator

Earlier this month, I visited with the American Bible Society about YouVersion.  After our meeting, one of their guys shared a video with me that I think captures the distinction between using innovation and being innovative.  What do you think?

Oh, I can’t really tell you what I think! :)

That’s sad. More true than we’d like to think. And sad.

    Awesome Bobby. Faith is action.

Makes me think about if I took one step - what I would not be stuck in anymore. Scary! True! Funny!

i would have responded sooner but the batteries in my mouse went dead…

too many correlations to church…”i can’t follow along with no talk notes” to “we can’t have church, the senior pastor is out of town”.

good illustration as to the box we put ourselves in…had one of my staff tell me last week, as it relates to our new workflow system, that the whole paperless thing wouldn’t work…what is she going to read.

You already know what I think about this topic. So I thought I’d just leave a comment for sentiment’s sake and say hi.

This actually happened to me once. Thankfully the fire department showed up and they eventually used a ladder to climb up and get me.

This was a really funny sketch a couple decades ago on SNL (or maybe a show that preceded it, I can’t remember). It went on forever and I think someone finally panicked and jumped for it.

Some of the responses were even funnier to the video. I am thinking, if we just took the time to examine our situation, the solution is a lot more simple then the problem.

    Impressions:

Instead of depending upon other people to give you a ride, just walk up the stairs.

    No short cuts.

Easy way is not always best.

Will you be where you want to be when time runs out?

Don’t fall asleep, user your faith, take the next step toward your destination.

    Wait.

A sure way out is to just jump over the side.

Our public school actually used this video last week to remind us teachers WHY we teach. We must focus on the ‘thinking’ (input) rather than the ‘test scores’(output).
As Christ’s followers, we are teachers. We must focus on the ‘thinking’ by asking where are you at work in my life Christ and how can I cooperate? Christ already graded the test, we all have A . Let’s teach others how to get off that escalator. It may seem obvious to us, but be reminded of how blinded we all can be.

I love what the sponsor did with this. They took something we see everyday (an escalator) and turned it into something that every person can relate to - and remember! That was innovative! We have that in the church everywhere. What is our escalator? Non-believers have their own ideas of what church is all about. For example, most non-believers (and many Christians) believe Christians are hypocrits. Now take that thought and make it into something that makes them laugh at themselves. I don’t know. I just know we have a lot of escalators that could be turned into innovations.
