Built on the Facebook platform: Church
It’s not new news, but this last weekend we launched our first Facebook application: Church
You’ll need to be a Facebook user to check it out. If you’re not, you can find out how to sign-up here. In one of my previous posts, someone mentioned that Facebook should give some sort of referral fee for all the people I’ve brainwashed into signing up
So what does it do?
- Read about the current message series
- Join any of our three Internet campus experiences through your Facebook profile
- Invite up to 10 of your friends to install the app each day (a Facebook limitation)
- See a countdown to the next experience time
- During the week take a tour of the Internet campus interface.
It is currently very simple, but will be expanding over the coming weeks to incorporate several more features that better leverage the abilities of the Facebook platform.
We’d love to get a large group of people to install it by this weekend and give some feedback on this post. We’ve had almost 300 people install it just from word of mouth over the last few days. You can install it here:
http://apps.facebook.com/facebookchurch/
Note: If you installed the app before this last weekend, you will want to revisit that page so that your profile will be updated with the new code.

This is so cool! Great job, digital design team!
The format is perfect, the size is just right, and I love that people who don’t have the application can still use it (unlike some facebook apps, like video).
I’m so proud of my church!
Your next Facebook application could be a registration tool for the IC campus that also adds the Church and this application to their Facebook. You could call it “Brainwash”. I can see both positive and negative implications to that name. Tell me what you think…or maybe in this case, what to think? What? It’s a theme, or meme, or something.(grin)
Bobby,
I love what you’ve done.
Jimmy,
I think Brainwash is a great name for the next app. You HAVE to install it. You HAVE to install it. You HAVE to install it
Great job guys. I love the new look of the Internet Campus. Flippin’ sweet.
[...] With the Church app, we got the developer in place on Monday, I had design to him by Wednesday, and it all came together around 6pm on Friday!!! In order to hit our deadline, we did short it some needed features that we will be adding to in phase II, but it’s a solid 1.0. For more info on it, you can check out the posting on the Swerve site here [...]
[...] Bobby Gruenewald announces this here and provides installation details. [...]

Glad to hear you’re happy with my team’s work

Attended the “facebook” service last night - it was AWESOME. Cant wait to see what’s next!
You guys continue to amaze me at your innovation and determination to do whatever it takes to reach as many people for Christ. I am so challenged as a pastor by all you guys do. Thanks for your example. It’s humbling.
[...] Our friends over at LifeChurch.tv came up with an innovative, new way to engage the internet frontier. They’ve created an application for Facebook that you can add to your Facebook account. You can: invite friends, join the church online, or tour their internet campus, with more functions to come. Check it out… admin @ 5:50 am | [...]
why hasn’t this been publicized more at church or switch? it’s these kinds of ideas that REALLY catch on. i saw an interview on tv with one of the guys that created GodTube.com… ideas like this are relevant: it’s “Jesus 2.0″ for “Web 2.0,” and this is just another amazing example of how the church is find new ways to better target it’s members!
You guys are awesome. I am trying to integrate facebook connect into our church website. I have gotten WP to connect and I am trying to develop a really basic app for people to interact within our church community. I do this volunteer and I’ve spent hours just trying to learn the basics. Any pointers??? I have spent hours and hours reading the code and mysql database stuff…. just don’t seem to have enough time to get this down. I am getting pretty decent in Wordpress but this is getting pretty difficult.
God Bless,
