What’s all this hype about Facebook? (Part 3)

Thanks to all of you who have connected with me on Facebook. It’s been great getting to meet so many of you from all over the world.

steven furtick facebookToday will continue the series on Facebook by talking briefly about the groups feature. Once you have setup an account, updated your profile, and added friends…you may want to join or create a group in Facebook. Though the groups feature could be much better, it is a fairly easy way to quickly create a dialog with others around a particular issue or idea. Depending on what functions the group officers (creator) enable, you can post photos, have discussions, post news items, post things on the group wall and message users.

If you select “groups” on the left side of Facebook, you can see groups that your friends have joined and/or search for a new group that might want to join. Once you have identified a group that you would like to join, you can do so simply by clicking on the group and then selecting “Join this Group” on the upper right side of the page.

Also, you can create a new group for your church, business, special interest, etc. by selecting “Create a New Group” at the top right menu of the groups page. While creating a new group, you can set all of the attributes and each group can be open, closed or secret. I’ve had a secret group that I am going to make public today so that you can join it. It’s called “Steven Furtick can’t drink more Diet Coke than me”. You are welcome to search for and join that group…you can also see it listed in my groups on my profile page.

Feel free to invite me to the new groups that you create…I’ll do my best to stay connected to what you are doing.

Bobby, is the secret group content actually private or just not available to the search? Could I create a secret group and specify the people that I want to see it along with content?

Has anyone used flyers as a church marketing campaign? Im thinking about doing it for my target area and the local community college - seems cheap enough

I noticed that your blog feeds for swerve are posting on your “facebook” page. How can I get my blog postings to post to my facebook page?

    Dave,

There is an option in facebook where you can import notes from an rss feed - get the rss feed of your blog, and post it there.

Try to find an “import” option in your notes page somewhere. For me, it shows it on the right side of the my notes page.

Goto Notes from the applications menu on the left, click the my notes tab, and click the Import blog option on the right side.

    God Bless ‘_^

    Suraj,

Thanks so much for the tip. It worked out great. I was racking my brain yesterday trying to figure it out.

    God Bless.

[...] You can tell from my 1, 2, 3 posts about Facebook last week that I see great potential in it as a platform to connect with people. At a minimum, it is an important phenomenon that you should at least experience to understand. [...]
