2007 is THE breakthrough year

It is an exciting time to be alive. Not only are we living during a time where more people (approx 6.5 billion) are alive, but we are also more connected than ever before. The opportunity to reach people with the Gospel using technology as a tool is HUGE!!

Right now, as I write this, CES (The Consumer Electronics Show) is taking place in Las Vegas. It’s the largest trade show in the US where thousands of new products are being introduced to the public. At the same time, Macworld is happening in San Francisco, CA where Apple has been introducing several new products to the public. I’ll post a wrap-up at the end week with the latest products that can be used to reach this world for Christ.

In particular the thing I am personally excited about is the convergence of the Internet with the television. Though there are already several devices that will allow you to watch video content from the Internet on your television, this year will mark a significant advance for those products. My enthusiasm is centered not around more entertainment options, but rather around the ability for our church to extend our reach globally into anyone’s home that is connected to the Internet.

We have a significant initiative underway at LifeChurch.tv to further extend the reach of the local church using technology including what I am describing. I look forward to sharing more about it as it unfolds over this year.

2007 will be a breakthrough year for the us (The Church) to have significant global impact using technology. The great thing is that it does not take a big budget or significant resources to begin and several of you are already doing it. If you have not made the shift from local to global in your thinking, now is the time to make that change…you will want to be a part.

[...] Here’s some very exciting news that’s near and dear to my heart: according to this post on LifeChurch.tv’s new Swerve blog, they are in the process of setting up an island in Second Life, the highly successful virtual world where you can build, say, and do just about anything. [...]

[...] It looks like the first online game in which organized evangelism efforts may bear fruit is Second Life, a virtual-life simulation that made the news recently when the government of Sweden announced the creation of a functioning Swedish embassy within the game world. Well, if the government can have a presence in a virtual gameworld, so can the church: at the blog of LifeChurch.tv (a church that topped the list of America’s most innovative churches), pastor Bobby Gruenewald notes briefly that Lifechurch.tv has definite plans to create an official presence in the Second Life gameworld: We actually have an island in SecondLife that we are working on. It will be a several weeks until it is all launched, but it is on the way. [...]
